Control
  • You control a 'bit', which is the small square inside the crosshair in the screen below. Use your mouse to move the bit around the screen.
  • Press the left mouse button to shield the bit.
  • Press the right mouse button to use a freeze bomb, which freezes all enemies on-screen for a limited time.
Objective and general information
  • The player starts with 3 lives. In normal mode, the player receives two freeze bombs per life up until level 32. After level 32, each time the player dies, they will only have 1 bomb, maximum. In Expert mode, the player can only every have 1 bomb, maximum. There are 64 levels to conquer through skillful play.
  • Get the highest score possible by destroying all enemies.
  • Shielding your bit will allow destruction of enemies, bullets and mines.
  • Mines and bullets will still do damage when shielded but it will be considerably less than if hit without the shield up.
  • Maximize your score on each level and try to achieve a flawless rating.
  • Some enemies are indestructible and must be avoided.

Options
  • Pressing F12 captures a screenshot, which is placed in the Screens folder.
  • Pressing V toggles whether V-sync is on or off. If V-sync is on, then the game will run at the same number of frames per second(FPS) as your monitor refresh rate, in hertz e.g. a refresh rate of 70Hz will mean the game will try to run at 70 FPS. It's desirable to run the game at around 60 FPS, so leave the V-sync option as off and the game will try to hit 60 FPS.
  • Pressing P toggles the number of particles that will be displayed during explosions. Set this to low if the FPS drops below 50 during the game.
  • Pressing T toggles enemy particle trails. Set this to off if the FPS drops below 50 during the game.
  • Pressing B toggles the background. Set this to off if the FPS drops below 50 during the game. Try setting this to off, before turning any of the other features off, if the game is slow.
  • Pressing M changes the mode (title screen only) from normal to expert.
  • Pressing A cycles Anti-Alias (title screen only) from None->2x->None etc. (if modes are available).
  • Pressing L turns lighting off, giving that retro look to the enemies i.e. flat, 1 colour polys.
  • Pressing S toggles auto-saving of games. When the user has completed levels 7, 15 and 31, a save will be performed which can be loaded once the game has ended. Auto-saving is only allowed for Normal Mode games.
  • Pressing 1 loads a level 7 saved game, if available.(title screen only)
  • Pressing 2 loads a level 15 saved game, if available.(title screen only)
  • Pressing 3 loads a level 31 saved game, if available.(title screen only)
  • The ESC key quits the current game if one is underway or exits the program if no game is in progress.
Saved games
  • If the save game option is on, then all data for a game will be saved when the player completes levels 7, 15 and 31. The option to start saved games at levels 8, 16 and 32 will become available once a save has been made. See the Options section above.
  • WARNING - with this option on, you will automatically overwrite any previous saved game data.
To toggle the setting: Press the S button during the game.

Scoring, links and relinks
  • To score the maximum points per level, the player must link enemies of the same colour together by destroying them. As more enemies of the same colour are destroyed, the score for each enemy increases as follows:
    1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048
  • If all enemies of one colour are destroyed in a row, a relink is awarded and the score multiplier increases by 1. The relink allows the player to start another chain of enemies.
  • If the player breaks a chain, by destroying the wrong coloured enemy, the score and multiplier are reset
e.g. there are 10 yellow enemies and 4 Red enemies on a level. If the order of destruction is YYYYYYRYYYY points will increase for the first 6 Yellow enemies and reset when the Red enemy is destroyed. The multiplier will also be lost, because the chain and the chance to relink has now gone for the Yellow enemies (and also the Red enemies).
  • To obtain a flawless score in this example, the order would be RRRRYYYYYYYYYY. A multiplier is gained after the 4th Red enemy is destroyed, then all Yellow enemies are worth double their normal score.
Bonuses
  • An extra life is awarded at every million points.
  • At the end of every level a bonus is awarded. This is based on the time left and other factors.
  • If the player reaches 16, 32, 64 or 128 relinks, a bonus mode is activated, allowing a good player to increase their score dramatically. During bonus mode, normal scoring is overridden, with each enemy worth 16k points. Relinks can still be gained during bonus mode but multipliers are ignored.
