II - General Info

Now that little legal thing is out of the way... Hello, and thanks for downloading and trying out Malos. I enjoyed making this game and I really hope you enjoy playing. If not, sorry, too bad. I can't please everyone. =)

This version is a beta test to make sure it works on a majority of hardware and systems and to find any bugs that have escaped me. See section IV for bug reports.

Malos Requires:
    Windows 95/98 (maybe 2000) hasn't been tested
    Pentium 233Mhz (or equivelant)
3D Card that supports either OpenGL or Glide
A Sound Card for music (does anyone not have a sound card anymore?)
2.5 Meg of hard drive space.
    8 Meg of RAM

I made the thing about a Pentium 233 up. It sounded like a good number to me. I developed it on a Pentium III 450, so I don't really know how well it works on slower machines. A little feedback would be nice =)

The 3dfx version definitely has image quality over the OpenGL version, so if you have a 3dfx card only use the OpenGL version if the glide version fails.

III - Instructions

Part 1. Setup:

Start the program. Select your Method of rendering and resolution of choice, and if you want to play windowed or fullscreen (OpenGL only) Then hit start.

Part 2. Playing:

When Malos starts up you get a menu of 1) Start Game, 2) Setup 2) Credits, 3) Quit 4) Some other stuff that isn't functional. Use the arrow up/down arrow keys to navigate the menu and press enter to select.

When the game actually begins, you'll see a 15x15 grid of squares, some walls, some flags, some spinning colored circles, and a colorful ball. You control the ball with the arrow keys. The objective is to move your ball over all the red colored circles on the board and change their color to green. Each time you run over a red circle, an enemy ball will appear on the board and come after you. If they touch you, you die.

Also on the board is a spinning blue circle. When you run over this circle with the ball you get ten seconds during which enemies will run away from you and if you can catch them, they are destroyed.

The last kind of colored circle are orange ones. These are enemy spawn points. If you run over these, you die.

When all red circles are changed to green, the level ends and you proceed to the next level. Each level has a time limit. If you run out of time, you die.

There is a map available to see your position relative to the enemies positions. You can press the TAB key to toggle it on and off. To quit or pause the game press ESC. From there your can choose to resume your game or quit to the menu.

So go play! But finish the readme first. =)

IV - Feedback, Bug Reporting and known bugs

If for some reason Malos fails to work for you I'd really like to hear about it so I can make it as bug free as possible. Even if works great I'd like to hear from you. My E-mail is gollum@flipcode.com Please make the subject something like 'Malos Feedback' or 'Malos Bug Report'

If you do give me feedback please include the following information:

The nature of the bug (if any) Please don't report bugs that are listed in 'Known Bugs'
The OS you run (95,98,2000, NT)
The speed and processor of your computer
The type of 3D card you have
    Anything else that seems relevant

and any comments/questions/praise/flames/etc. that you may have.

Known Bugs:
ALT-TAB has problems when in fullscreen mode. Stay away from it!

VI - Distribution

I encourage you to give copies of Malos to anyone who wants it, or you think may like it, as longs as this readme file is included and all content and components of Malos are unchanged.
