Solun'-u is a small planetarium "midlet" designed
for use on Java-enabled mobile phones (J2ME MIDP).
With Solun'-u in your pocket, you'll be ready for
a spot of astronomy on the move.
Solun'-u application should operate on most
devices supporting MIDP 1.0, but works best with
a colour screen. The application is available in
different configurations:
- Standard edition (version 1.30)
- Primarily designed for Series 60 devices, such
as the Nokia 7650, this edition should operate on many
other Java-enabled mobile phones,
such as the Nokia 3510i.
- Low resource edition (version 1.02)
- Offering fewer features, this edition should
operate on older Java-enabled phones, such as the
Siemens SL45i.
Solun'-u is Freeware.

The distribution ZIP file contains the following files:
- These installation instructions:
readme.txt and readme.htm
- The application package files:
uSolun.jad and uSolun.jar
To install Solun'-u on your mobile phone you need
to use the "uSolun" JAD and JAR files.
Depending on your phone you may need to send the
JAR and JAR files to the phone (e.g. by infrared,
Bluetooth or email) or you may be able to start the
installation from PC connection software.
You will normally need to start the installation
using the JAD file. Read your phone's manual for
more information.
Note: If you are unable to send the JAD and
JAR file to your phone then you may wish to try an
"over-the-air" download direct to your phone. Please
see the web site for details (address below).
Please consult your phone's manual for how to
uninstall a Java application.
If you are experiencing problems when using
Solun'-u then there are a few things you can do.
- Some phones may not have enough memory to run the
"Standard edition" of Solun'-u. If the application
fails to start, locks up or exits unexpectedly
then try the "Low resource edition" available from
the web site (address below).
- If the displays appear to be incorrect by a few
hours, ensure that your phone's local time zone is
configured correctly. If this cannot be corrected
on your device, you can use the "Now correction"
field on the "Set date" panel to cause Solun'-u to
add or subtract a number of minutes to the time it
reads from your phone's clock.
- Please note, Solun'-u always displays the time
in your phone's default time zone, which is often
GMT and is shown on the "Set date" panel.
- Check the information on the web site to see if
it has an answer to your problem.
- If you still have a problem, you can always try
contacting me. To help me understand the problem,
please try to include the following information:
- The Solun'-u version number.
- Details of the device you are running on.
- A clear description of what you were attempting
to do when the problem occurred.
- Accurate details of any error messages that
were produced.
